Approximately 20% of the population is born highly sensitive.

No. Sensitivity is a personality trait and a nervous system characteristic — not a disorder. It was first identified by psychologist Dr. Elaine Aron in the 1990s and is well-documented in research. The challenges sensitive people face are real, but they stem from living in a world that isn't designed for how sensitive nervous systems work — not from something being wrong with you. In today’s overstimulating world, I have additionally observed that more people are exhibiting sensitive traits, especially our children.

Sensitive people often have immune systems that are already working harder than average — responding to emotional stress, absorbing unseen energies from people and environments, EMF exposure, and toxic load simultaneously. When the immune system is chronically overstimulated by these multiple layers of input, it has less reserve to fight off illness or recover from setbacks. This is one of the core reasons why addressing all of these layers together — not just the physical — is so important for sensitive people's health.

Yes. Many people find their sensitivity increases after a significant health event, trauma, or period of chronic stress. Sensitive nervous systems pick up on the emotional and energetic states of others, the energy imprinted in spaces, and even collective moods and tensions, and process them as if they were their own. The first step is recognizing it's happening — which most sensitive people don't do until they understand their sensitivity. EMF sensitivity — sometimes called electromagnetic hypersensitivity (EHS) — refers to heightened reactivity to electromagnetic frequencies as well as wireless signals from WiFi routers, cell phones, smart devices, smart meters, wireless baby monitors, and other electronics — collectively known as electrosmog. Symptoms vary but can include fatigue, headaches, brain fog, sleep disruption, heart palpitations, and a persistent sense of unease. Sensitive people are particularly vulnerable because their nervous systems are already absorbing unseen energies from multiple sources — EMF/electrosmog is a significant layer in that larger picture.

Common signs include feeling better when away from cities or electronics (camping, nature trips), sleep that improves significantly when you turn off WiFi at night, fatigue or headaches that seem to correlate with screen time or device use, and a general sense of agitation or overstimulation at home that you can't otherwise explain. Tracking your symptoms against your environment is a useful starting point.

Yes — and sensitive children may be especially affected. Children's nervous systems and immune systems are still developing, making them more vulnerable to the cumulative effects of EMF exposure from devices, school WiFi, and wireless environments. Combined with the other unseen energies sensitive children absorb from their emotional and social environments, the cumulative load can be significant. Practical first steps include turning off WiFi at night, keeping devices out of bedrooms, using wired connections where possible, increasing distance between you and your devices, and choosing wired baby monitors over wireless ones. Toxic load refers to the cumulative burden of chemical exposures your body carries from food, personal care products, cleaning supplies, plastics, medications, environmental pollutants, and other everyday sources. For most people, the body can process a certain level of these inputs. But sensitive people — and sensitive children — often have immune systems and detox pathways that respond more intensely, meaning their threshold is lower and the effects more pronounced. Toxic load works in combination with EMF exposure and absorbing unseen energies to create the overall burden on a sensitive system.

Chemical sensitivity (also called multiple chemical sensitivity or MCS) is a condition where a person experiences symptoms in response to low-level chemical exposures that most people tolerate without issue. This can include fragrances, cleaning products, pesticides, synthetic fabrics, off-gassing from new furniture or paint, and more. Many sensitive people have some degree of chemical sensitivity without realizing it. Other things like mold exposure and hidden infections can also contribute to a body’s toxic load, making a person more sensitive to chemicals.

Start with the highest-exposure categories first: personal care products, cleaning supplies, and food quality. Swapping conventional products for cleaner alternatives in these three areas reduces the majority of daily chemical exposure for most families. Absolutely. The gut-brain connection means that what burdens the body also affects the mind. Many sensitive people find that reducing toxic load leads to improvements in mood stability, mental clarity, emotional resilience, and sleep quality — often within a few weeks. Reducing the physical toxic burden also frees up the body's capacity to process the other unseen energies it's been absorbing.

Signs of a sensitive child include strong emotional reactions, difficulty transitioning between activities, overwhelm in noisy or crowded environments, physical sensitivity to clothing textures or food, deep empathy for others, and difficulty calming down after upset.

They could also be extremely shy, have frequent illness or immune challenges, and/or have reactions to foods, chemicals, and environments that seem out of proportion. Interestingly, even high-functioning, perfectionist type of personalities can be highly sensitive, but they have learned to mask their sensitivities.
