Sensitive people absorb EMF and environmental energies more intensely than others — which means regular EMF detox isn't optional for us. It's essential.

EMFs and wireless technology — collectively known as electrosmog — are not going anywhere. I was reminded of this recently when we stopped for dinner at our local Panera Bread. And I was reminded of the need to regularly do an EMF detox.

Don’t get me wrong, we like this place. It's actually the closest thing to fast food that we do as a family. (We have learned to customize our meals to eliminate trigger foods like GMOs, gluten, bad oils, and other more processed selections.)

But that night, we discovered something under our table that prompted me to write this article — a reminder that all of us, and especially sensitive people and sensitive children, are exposed to electrosmog regularly, in ways we often don't notice until we start looking.

(Yes, we actually flipped the table over to take a better look and we found another form of electrosmog, which I will explain in more detail below.)

It prompted me to write this article as a reminder that all of us are exposed to electrosmog on a regular basis. When we are out and about, we are continuously being exposed to electromagnetic frequencies (EMFs), wireless (Wi-Fi) radiation, and dirty electricity — in buildings, while driving, walking city streets, etc.

For sensitive people, this constant electrosmog exposure is not just an inconvenience — it's a significant health consideration. Sensitive people absorb environmental energies, including EMF frequencies from wireless technology, more intensely than others. Their nervous systems and immune systems respond to electrosmog inputs that most people barely register. Over time, without regular EMF detox strategies, this cumulative exposure contributes to immune system overwhelm, energetic drain, and a body that never fully resets.

The good news is that there are EMF detox strategies you can do to lessen its effects on your body as you will learn below.

Make Home Safe

For sensitive people especially, the home is your most important line of defense — because sensitive nervous systems need a true refuge from the electrosmog absorbed during the day.

One of the best things you can do is mitigate your own home as much as possible. As I explained in this previous article about EMFs, there are many things you can do to make your home a safe haven, greatly reducing many types of electrosmog. A low-EMF home allows your body to recuperate from outside electrosmog sources that are out of your control.

Even more important is making your bedroom an electrosmog safe haven, since this is where you typically spend 7 to 9 consistent hours. Removing all electronics and wireless devices is crucial here. This is where your body can decompress and regenerate during the night.

While you sleep is also when your brain detoxifies. Your brain actually shrinks like a sponge being squeezed at night while sleeping, so that toxins and metabolic wastes can move out of the brain and into the body where they can be eliminated.

For sensitive children especially, a bedroom free of electronics and wireless devices is one of the most impactful changes a parent can make — sensitive kids' developing nervous systems are particularly vulnerable to overnight electrosmog exposure.

Ground Your Body

Another thing you can do is intentionally ground your body on the earth, allowing it to discharge its excess energy. I call this an EMF detox. In reality, every time you expose your body directly to the earth, whether it is the grass, dirt, sand, etc., you are absorbing electrons from the earth. These electrons enter your body and act as an antioxidant that helps combat the oxidative stress created by EMFs and wireless radiation.

For sensitive people, grounding is about more than just EMF detox. It is also an effective way to clear the unseen energies that sensitive people absorb throughout the day — the emotional states of others, the residual energy of places and environments, the intensity of media and news, and the cumulative weight of collective world events.

When sensitive people connect with the earth, they are not only releasing accumulated electrosmog — they are discharging the full spectrum of energetic input their sensitive systems have been absorbing. This is why sensitive people often feel a dramatic shift in how they feel after time in nature, even when they can't explain why.

You can ground with your bare feet, your hands, or your whole body. There is more than one way to ground and reset your body. The more of the following you can do on a daily basis, the better.

  • walk around your yard with bare feet and have your kids play outside with bare feet – wet or dewy grass (or even damp soil) is best, damp concrete or stone pavers works good too
  • take a walk in nature – bathing yourself in the energy of trees or hug a tree in your yard if you don’t have time to take a walk (it works!)
  • sit in the sun – exposing as much of your skin as possible without sunscreen 10 to 20 minutes (see more here)
  • take an Epsom salt bath for 10 to 20 minutes – helps to balance the body and replenish the magnesium that electrosmog depletes from the body
  • stand on a piece of aluminum foil with bare feet – leave a piece in your bathroom and do this while brushing your teeth (although not the same as grounding in nature, it will discharge excess energy from the body)
  • do some gardening – touching live plants and dirt on the ground as you garden is similar to grounding with your feet
  • take a walk on the beach with your feet in the ocean or wade into a near by lake or stream – to clear additional unseen energies try cutting energetic cords, as I explain in this video.
  • get an ionic foot bath – this produces an effect similar to walking in the ocean
  • have a picnic in the grass (without a blanket) or lay on the ground to connect your body and skin with nature
  • get a detox clay pack – targeted mud packs will help clear interference fields in your body and restore balance (more about interference fields here)

As you can see, connecting with nature is key to detoxing from EMFs and helping your body repair. Mother nature is a wonderful curative!

Sensitive people tend to feel the benefits of grounding more quickly and more noticeably than others — which is actually good news, because it means this simple, free practice can make a meaningful difference in how you feel within minutes.

Grounding Mats and Sheets

You may have also heard of grounding mats or grounding sheets as a means of grounding. This sounds like a good thing, but there are several things you need to consider, especially if you are a sensitive person.

  • Not all grounding devices are created equal, and some may not be grounding you correctly or not grounding you at all.
  • Items that need to be washed regularly, like grounding sheets and pillow cases, may lose their effectiveness over time as the metal typically woven into the material gets worn.
  • If you are more sensitive, using a quality grounding device all night might be too much for your body, especially starting out. It may also create a detox reaction your body is not ready for, making you feel worse instead of better.
  • A grounding cord is used to ground the mat or sheet to the grounding pin (third prong) of an electrical outlet. If the outlet is not properly grounded, the mat/sheet will not work correctly and may make you feel worse. (You can get an inexpensive ground meter to check your outlet.)
  • A grounding cord could alternatively "plug" directly into the earth outside your bedroom window. However, in the United States, neutral electrical current is allowed to return to the utility's electrical substation through the earth. This creates stray currents that could potentially be in the ground near your house, which you don't want returning to the mat/sheet through the grounding cord. Although more rare, it is something you should be aware of.
  • Your bedroom should also be clear of electronics and wireless devices for optimal effect.

It is for all these reasons that I always suggest grounding in nature over using a plug-in type of grounding device.

For sensitive people specifically, this caution is especially important — sensitive immune systems and nervous systems can react strongly to stray electrical currents, so testing carefully and listening to your body's response is essential before committing to regular grounding mat use.

Instead, your first step to creating a safer bedroom should always be to remove all electronics like smartphones, TVs, computers, plug-in digital clocks (battery ones are better), etc.

Protect Your Health

Other things you can do to reduce your overall exposure to electrosmog include mitigating your smart meter, reducing electrosmog at work (find some basic suggestions here), and talking to your children’s schools about limiting electrosmog in the classroom.

For sensitive people managing immune system overwhelm, rebuilding after long-term electrosmog exposure often means addressing multiple layers simultaneously — not just the technology itself, but also the other unseen stressors the body has been absorbing.

If there has been long-term exposure to electrosmog, other things may need to be done to support and/or rebuild the body: targeted detox, added nutrition, mitochondrial support, etc. Doing a more extensive “digital detox,” where you abstain from using all electronics for a specific length of time, may also be necessary.

Getting back to Panera. . .When I asked what was under the table, they told me it was an RFID system. Apparently, this is the direction many “fast casual” restaurants are heading. It is a wireless system used in combination with the pagers you get upon ordering to allow servers to find your table and management to collect analytical data on your visit.

This new technology will not stop us from eating at Panera Bread again, however, next time we will most likely do takeout and eat it at home. . . or have a picnic in the grass.

Keep yourself informed so you stay safe in our EMF world.

And if you are a sensitive person — or a parent of a sensitive child — remember that grounding isn't just about EMF detox. It is one of your most powerful daily tools for clearing the full spectrum of unseen energies your sensitive system absorbs. The more consistently you make it part of your routine, the more your body can regulate, reset, and recover.
